Cheviot Red Cross
The Cheviot sub-centre of the Red Cross, which held its annual meeting recently, now has a membership of 40. The annual report stated that members had arranged and helped the visit of the mobile blood transfusion unit, sponsored a mental patient, sent parcels to three others, and adopted an Austrian family of seven. Donations were made to Good Neighbour service, £l2: Market Day, £8: sick soldiers in Malaya, £5; Korean Milk Fund, £5: emergency cupboard, £5: hospital comforts, £ls—a total of £5O- - and pickles were sent to meals on wheels, and clothing to the centre. Officers elected were: president. Mrs H. Flower; vicepresidents, Mesdames E. Davidson, G. Brown and H. Shaw: secretary-treasurer, Mrs D. M. Bennett: committee, Mesdames D. McNabb, R. MacArthur, A. Elliott, M. Childs, and Miss G. Hayes.
Flowers For Store.—The Canterbury Flower Arrangement Society was one of the community groups busy making its contribution to the Pan-Pacific Arts Festival last evening. About 20 members, professional and amateur florists, worked in Ballantyne’s store doing arrangements for various departments and show windows. The floral arrangements will be renewed regularly to last throughout the festival.
