POST OFFICE AIM
Standardised Letter Boxes (From Our Own Reporter) GREYMOUTH, Feb. 19. The Post and Telegraph Department is interested in a standard type of letter box and a sample has been produced by the New Zealand Standards Institute, the Chief Postmaster in Greymouth (Mr G. M. Parkhouse) said today. The Post Office experienced difficulty with house numbers in certain areas, he said. Local bodies, mainly borough councils, were being asked to get people to display their numbers. Mr Parkhouse said at present a lot was left to the local knowledge of the postmen. If a new man was engaged there would be difficulties with poorly addressed mail. Proper numbering would make the sorting of mail simpler, with the result that people would get it delivered earlier. Uniformity throughout the country was the aim of the Post Office, Mr Parkhouse said.
