Record Entries At Jersey Show
There was a record of more; than 200 entries and more , than 100 cattle at the eleventh j Canterbury Jersey cattle' show at the Rahgiora race-1 way on Saturday. The 16 classes were judged’ by Mr G. McWilliam, who said that some of the cattle • had weak loins, and it was particularly important to pay specific attention to this fault. Mr McWilliam praised the well-knit shoulders and good string of ribs in cattle he judged, and said that the cattle were a great credit to the breeders. Before the Earl of Jersey and the Countess of Jersey presented the trophies. Lord Jersey was offered honorary life membership of the New Zealand Jersey Breeders’! Association, which he accep-| ted. R. W. Frost, who won a top award at the recent Jersey i shows at Hamilton and 1 Palmerston North, again took, off the top trophies. He won I the Bridgewater Cup for the! champion cow, the G. H.! Dawick Trophy for the best! cow of any age. the Higgins Cup for the best uddered cow. and several other trophies. F. E. Martin and Son won the trophy for the best yearling heifer, H. J. Htirford the trophies for the best cow in milk two years
and best cow in milk four years; and D. J. Hellyer, of Dunedin, won the trophy for the competitor outside the North Canterbury and Midland Canterbury Jersey Club with most points. Championships were awarded as follows: Females. Senior champion: R W. Frost’s Pine Leigh Primrose; reserve, H. J. Hurford and Son s Clover Nook Daisy. Junior champion': F. E. Martin and Son's Silverlea Lucks Linda: reserve, J. J. Hughey’s Grena Bank Silvia. Males.—Senior champion: D. J Hellyer's Bayside Sun Chief; reserve, F. W. Hansen s Kotodale Doctor Jim. Junior champion: M. R. Tate’s Ribbonwood Polly Ensign; reserve, N. J. Bain's Baylene Sir Valiant. Results were: Female, in milk, five years old or over: R. W. Frost’s Pine Leigh Valerie, 1; F. E.
