Applications To Carry Cars

The hearing of tn application by Car Haulaways (N.Z.), LAd., ot Auckland, for a continuous goods-servlce licence was begun by the No. 9 Transport Licensing Authority (Mr J. S. Haywood) on Tuesday.

The company (Mr R. Stacey and Mr R. C. G. McDermott) asked for eight vehicle authorities (four for use on trailers only) to carry In the South Island newly assembled cars and other motorvehicles, with exemption from ral! restriction. It wishes to use specially constructed car transporters able to carry nine to 11 cars. The application is opposed by E. H. Boyce and Company, Ltd (Mr H W. Hunter), which is seeking the amendment of a continuous goodseerrice licence by the addition of (a) 10 vehicle authorities to carry motorvehicles with exemption from rail restriction throughout New Zealand, and (b) 20 vehicle authorities to carry new vdddea by naw vehicles throughout New Zealand with exemption from rail restriction.

Both applications are opposed by the Railways Department (Mr B. J. A. Cathro and Mr F. D. Daly). The hearing of the appllcationa is expected to continue until Friday.
