Coach To Return

The Australian tennis coach, L. Atkins, who has spent a great deal of his time coaching New Zealanders over the last few seasons, will again conduct sessions at the United club, for nine days from February 27. It will be the fourth time Atkins has coached for the club, the last time in November. His programme is again being arranged by an officer of the club, Mr C. L. Griffiths. Atkins will coach groups from a number of schools he has taken before, including Avonside Girls’ High School, Sacred Heart College, Linwood High School and Christ's College. He will also coach St. Andrew’s College for the first time. As well, he will have ses-

sions with individuals, notable among whom will be the promising J. Martin. On March 8, Atkins will return to Australia, where he is captain-coach of the Australian rules football team, Angaston, about 30 miles from Adelaide. He will return to New Zealand to coach tennis in September. The Canterbury Lawn Tennis Association has lost its official coach, P. Hubrich, who has taken a lectureship at the University of Otago. He hopes to continue with parttime coaching there. Hubrich has been responsible for the coaching in the South Island under the Shell scheme and there may now be a gap to fill.
