The entry totalled fifilO, compared with 3840 last week, and Included A wide variety of quality in both the Romney and fine wool sections.

Values did not reach the high prices paid at the Amberley ewe fair for flne-wool sheep, and no Romney two-tooth made £5 or more this week. However, fine-wool values word generally sound on recent Addington rates, two or three pens making between £5 and £5 Is. Opinions on the Romney sale varied, some authorities think-, ing that prices ware slightly better than the medium-class types sold at Ashburton, while others thought Romneys could have been 2s or 4a cheaper than late Addington rates. One authority said he did not think there was the same premium being paid for Romneys this year as has been the case in the past. The sale lasted three hours, which is among the longest held at the yards this season. Older Ewes With a very large entry in the older-ewe section, the sale was very sound. Entries totalled 15,017 compared with 9448, and included a variety of sheep. A proportion of the yarding comprised aged ewes and ewes with doubtful mouths, but there was a good number of genuine mouth and age sheep which sold very well, realising rates fully up to last week and in cases several shillings above current prices. However, some authorities thought the older-ewe sale was definitely weaker In places to the extent of 2s or 3s a head—probably because of the large offering. The gallery was large, and interest was maintained throughout, with only isolated passings. Four and five year-old Romneys sold to 74s for the pick of the offering, with good types selling between 60s and 695, depending oa condition and the amount of wool, medium from
