Timaru Team Wins Marching Title

The Commodores, a Timaru marching team, gave a polished display at the Ashburton Marching Association's annual championships on Sunday to gain the highest aggregate points, ahead of Red Admirals (Oamaru) and Caroline Kilties (Timaru), which shared second placing. Motorways Royal Guards (Christchurch) won the junior championship and Blue Star Taxis and Perfection, both of Christchurch, shared the midgets’ championship. Blains Kilties’ (Ashburton) senior and junior teams gained four of the five awards for Ashburton County teams.

It was the largest championship event held by the Ashburton association. A

large contingent of Christchurch marching teams took part. A crowd of several hundred persons gathered around the oval to watch the teams perform. The general performance and turnout of teams was of a high standard. Results:— „ TROPHY LIST Open awards.—Dudley Cup <march past): Blue Star Taxis (Christchurch) and Caroline Kilties (Timaru).
