DESTROYING SHIP
(N.Z. Prefl Association) AUCKLAND, February 4. The Navy today began to destroy a piece of shipping tristory with explosives. It is an old ship, the Rangitoto, which entered a long and colourful career as a gunboat on the Amazon river for the Brazilian Government The ship was used as a tender by the British Navy during World War I and afterwards came to New Zealand as a ferry vessel for the Northern Shipping Company. Ltd. The Navy will give seamen training in the use of explosives for demolition purposes.
