INCENTIVES OFFERED
Bay Of Plenty Racing Clubs (N.Z. Press Ateoclatlon) TAURANGA. The Bay of Plenty Racing Club will offer incentives to owners and trainers at the second day of its two-day autumn meeting at Tauranga on April 3, in a bid to stand in face of competition from the Avondale Jockey Club, which was granted permission by the New Zealand Racing Conference to use one of its extra permits on April The Bay of Plenty club committee met on Wednesday and decided to proceed with its meeting on the prearranged dates of March 27 and April 3. Mr L McEwen, the Bay of Plenty club secretary, said yesterday the committee decided to: increase its stake money; stage two major events, the £lO5O Tauranga Cup, and the weight-for-age £llOO Easter Trial; and offer a £5O trophy for the most successful trainer of the meeting, and a £25 trophy for the top jockey. Mr McEwen said the incentives were offered in an attempt to offset the attractive stake money that the Avondale dub could afford to offer. Avondale’s stakes would be double those of the Bay of Plenty Club.
