Golden Vanity In Fast Sprint

Golden Vanity ran the fastest seven furlongs and Waverley the fastest half-mile in training at Riccarton yesterday. They are , rival candidates for the Craven Plate at Riccarton tomorrow. On form both should start at good odds, but on their best form neither would be without a chance. Golden Vanity, Waverley, and most of the others galloped 36ft out on the course proper, which gave excellent footing. Golden Vanity, ridden by C. T. Wilson, ran seven furlongs in Imin 29 3-ssec, the opening four very keenly in SO 2-ssec. Messmaid (Low) joined her for the last four, run In 51 3-ssec. Golden Vanity has not raced since tbe New Zealand Cup meeting, but she might star as a sprinter under 7st 81b tomorrow. Others to gallop seven furlongs included Royal Bid and Canadians, stablemates with engagements In the main races. FAVOURITE'S TASK ' Royal Bid Is the favourite for the Midsummer Handicap, and could have lost no followers for the £l5OO race with yesterday’s gallop. Ridden by F. H. He was scratched for the Post Handicap later in the day because he was out of sorts after the gallop. Chariborough (Taggart) ran seven furlongs in Imin 32 l-ssec, the last four in 51 4-ssec. He holds a bright chance of reaching one of the places In the Halswell Handicap tomorrow. STANDOUT FIT Apart from Waverley which, with F. H. Wlldermoth, ran six furlongs in Imin 18 l-ssec, and quickened nicely for the final four in 49 4-ssec.
