Three Gaoled For Year After Brawl At Hotel

WELLINGTON, Feb. 4. Three young men were each gaoled for a year by Mr D. G. Sinclair, SJI„ in the Magistrate’s Court at Levin today when they and two other men appeared for sentence on charges arising from a disturbance outside the Paraparaumu Hotel on December 28.
They are Allan Kenneth Hunter, aged 23, a workman: Gary Christopher Cane, aged 19, a workman; and Paul Howard Rait, aged 23. a workman. Hunter faced two charges of assaulting Constables M. J. Stevens and W. E. Titshall in the execution of their duty, one of resisting Constable Titshall in the execution of his duty, disorderly behaviour, and obscene language. Cane faced two charges of assaulting the constables in the execution of their duty, resisting a constable, disorderly behaviour, and obscene language. Rait appeared oj one charge of assaulting a constable, one of resisting a constable, obscene language, and disorderly behaviour. Raymond Charles Newson, aged 25, unemployed, was
gaoled for three months for disorderly behaviour. Hector Brandon Hapeta, aged 22, a workman, was fined the maximum of £2O for assaulting a constable and £lO for disorderly behaviour. Hapeta was also put on probation for two years.
