3YD Transmission Building Finished
(From Our Own Reporter) WELLINGTON, February 4. Station 3YD’s new transmitter buildingon the N.Z.B.C.’s property at Halswell in Christchurch—is now complete, and corporation engineers will begin installing the new 2kw equipment soon.
A 100 ft aerial mast has already been erected on the Bite.
An N.Z.B.C. spokesman said in Wellington today that when 3YD came on the air from its new site—probably late in March or early in April, it would give a better signal to many listeners in Christchurch and its environs.
He explained that to get the station on the air as soon
as possible in 1963, it had been necessary to adapt 3YC’s stand-by 2kw transmitter at Gebbie’s Pass for use by 3YD and to set up a temporary aerial system there, until the permanent facilities could be installed at Halswell.
“When the new equipment comes into service, 3YD’s existing transmitter will fulfil its former function,” he said.
The spokesman added that 3YD would be broadcast on a new frequency when the Halswell equipment was commissioned. Details of this would be made known later.
