Steel Shares Fall In U.K.
(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter) LONDON, February 2. Steel shares fell on the London Stock Exchange today following the Prime Minister, Mr Wilson’s, declaration last night he would press ahead with re-nationalisation of the industry. Shares of three of the giant steel firms, ColviUes, Stewarts and Lloyds, all dropped by 6d. United Steel, Britain’s biggest, fell 3d to 30s 6d. The president of the Federation of British Industries (Sir Peter Runge) told a press conference manufacturers and employers were very disappointed by Mr Wilson’s statement. “Nationalising the industry will not produce cheaper, better or more steel,” ne said.
