Salesmanship By Telephone
Sir, —On Saturday evening at 9 p.m. my telephone rang and a male voice asked to speak to Mr B. As I am a widow living with my son. I naturally thought the message was for him. I told the caller he would be back any minute and to ring again. The man rang some time later, having kept my son (who is a 4 a.m. riser) out of bed. The caller proceeded to talk about books. So my son put him on to me. This person chided me for putting him on to my son. He said he was not interested in. my son. He wanted to talk to me and my husband about books he was selling. Evidently a door-to-door salesman. It is bad enough having these people on your doorstep five days a week without their jamming our telephone on Saturday night. Next thing they will be following you to church on Sunday.—Yours, etc., ANTI-PEST. January 19, 1965.
