PLAN FOR ORFUL GROOP OF BUKS

LONDON, Jan. 6.
The man who published the Awful Spellers’ Dictionary says his sales have been so good that he is going to publish a series of Awful books. “We have done phenomenally well with the dictionary for awful spellers,” said Peter Wolfe. “It’s now well cm its way to 100,000 copies.
“All this has made us realise there is one incredible
gap in publishing. Everyone seems to assume that people are either beginners, competent, or advanced in a subject.
“Since I’m so bad at so many things myself this is something very dear to my heart. So, I’ve commissioned a series of Awful books designed specially for people who are bad at doing things.” The first three, to be published in March, will be called:
The Awful Cooks’ Book.
The Awful Dressmakers’ Book. The Awful Handymans’ Book. “All these tell you what not to do and what, if anything, you can do if you’ve already made an awful mess of something,” said Wolfe. “The title and the concept may be funny, but the books themselves are deadly serious and we hope will be of use in an emergency when, for instance, the sponge cake
goes flat, the pancakes have been ruined, or perhaps you have split the beautiful plank you’ve bought.” The Awful Spellers’ Dictionary was designed for those who spell so badly they can’t find th words in an ordinary dictionary. The words are arranged phonetically. One looks up a word the way it sounds. If one wants to spell phenomenal, one looks up fenominal.
