TELEVISED CRICKET

Commentators’ Team The Christchurch television station was endeavouring to build up a team of competent cricket commentators, said the district manager of the New Zealand Broadcasting Corporation (Mr K. W. Hay) yesterday. He had been asked by “The Press” to reply to a correspondent who had asked why there had been a change in commentators.

This was only the second season of cricket that had been televised in Christchurch, Mr Hay said, and the corporation wanted a competent team on which it could call instead of having to rely on one or two commentators and being in difficulties if one or both left or were ill. While the corporation was not “experimenting,” it was trying persons who were offering, and was satisfied that at present it had two good commentators, he said.
