RACING Trial Offer To Bid For Wellington Cup

“The Press” Special Service WELLINGTON. Trial Offer’s entry for the Wellington Cup is the most interesting feature of the nominations for the first day of the Wellington Racing Club’s summer meeting, which opens on January 23.

Her trainer and partowner, B. Hayter, said last night that Trial Offer had done particularly well since her Great Northern Oaks win and that there was a possibility that she would start in the Wellington Cup. In the meantime, he said, he would “just wait and see how things go.” Other Wellington Cup entries are the first four in the Auckland Cup, Lucky Son, Gold Chick, Fair Tiger, and Dandeinee, the beaten favourite, Golden Defoe, and the Melbourne Cup winner, Polo Prince, the New Zealand Cup winner, Alaska, the C.J.C. Metropolitan winner, Palisade, and the Trentham specialist, Kumai. The A.R.C. Newmarket and Railway Handicap winner, Baraboo, has been entered for the second leg of the double, the Telegraph Handicap, as have Gymkhana, the Thompson Handicap winner, Hushaway, and the speedy filly, Starlit.

Three-year-old Clash The feature of the second day should be the meeting of Sobig, Trial Offer, and Rio in the Gloaming Stakes, which is for three-year-olds over the Derby distance. The George Adams Handicap, on the third day, has attracted the Auckland Adams Handicap winner, Rochdale, last year’s Wellington winner, Gymkhana, and the star of the New Zealand Cup meeting, Ichtar, which is recovering well from his operation for wind trouble.
