APPOINTED TRAINER
"The Press” Special Service WANGANUI. The former jockey, D. E. R. Hackett, has been appointed private trainer to the Wanganui owner, Mr A. H. J. Gudsell. Hackett will begin duties later this month, succeeding D. Grubb, who relinquished the post in November to train publicly. A successful jockey on the flat and over fences, Hackett is no stranger to the Gudsell team, for he was employed as the stable horseman in 1962 till he suffered a fractured thigh in a fall from Hori at Stratford in January, 1963.
A Wanganui resident, Hackett has assisted in Wanganui track trials for the last 18 months. During that period he worked as a farrier.
T.A.B. Betting £23,643 “The Press” Special Service WELLINGTON. Investments with the Totalisator Agency Board on yesterday’s Reefton Jockey Club meeting totalled £23,643 10s, made up of win and place £10,727 and doubles £12,916 10s, compared with £44,488 5s for the meeting last year. On-course betting rose slightly to £12,719 10s, an increase of £6BB. Rehandicaps (N.Z. Press Association) GREYMOUTH. The following rehandicaps have been declared for the annual meeting of the Kumara Racing Club on Saturday: Trial Stakes.—Glen Harp 101 b to 9-8; Jaydee 101 b to 9-1. Gilbert Memorial Hack Handicap.—Vivien Robe 61b to 9-6. Taramakau Hack Handicap.— Slantre 61b to 8-10. Kumara Handicap.—Totara Lad 61b to 8-2.
