EDUCATION CRUISES
Expansion By Matson Lines Matson Lines’ South Seas “cruise university” programme will be expanded to five university-level cruise courses in 1965. The programme, launched this year with three sea-going university cruises, is sponsored by the University of Hawaii in co-operation with the United States National Education Association’s division of educational travel, and the Matson shipping line. The ship-board faculty will comprise five University of Hawaii professors, conducting courses in science, literature, art, geography and philosophy on successive cruises of the Monterey and Mariposa from San Francisco and Los Angeles to Auckland via the South Pacific. The special courses will be contemporary highlights in science, native arts of the South Pacific, geography of the Pacific Ocean area, contrasting philosophies of the East and West; and literature of the Pacific.
