GILES FAMILY REUNION

Many Expected For Clarkville Event Next Saturday evening the annual reunion of the Giles family will be held in the Clarkville Hall, near Kaiapoi. This annual occasion, held on the second Saturday in January, was begun in 1956, when centennial' celebrations marked the arrival of Mr L. Giles, 100 years previously, from Somerset, England. Mr Giles purchased land in Clarkville and named it Somerset Farm. This land has remained in the hands of Giles descendants, the present owners being Mr and Mrs V. Giles. Mr and Mrs L. Giles started their journey in 1856 with eight children, one more was born on the voyage and three more were born at Clarkville. In 1956 there were 639 descendants at the celebrations and about a further 300 known who were unable to be present. On Saturday evening the ninth reunion is expected to attract a large gathering of adults and children. A full social programme is being arranged by Mr and Mrs V. Giles.
