SYDNEY, January 4. The 39ft Sydney sloop, Freya, was today declared the official winner of the 1964 Sydney to Hobart yacht race. It was Freya’s second successive win in the race.
Only Westward, skippered by G. Gibson in 1947 and 1948, had previously won two in a row.
The No. 1 division was for the higher rating yachts and No. 2 for those with low ratings.
The official results, announced by the Cruising Yacht Club of Australia today, included:—
No. 1 Division.—Freya (T. and M. Halvorsen) 1, Camille (R. Swanson) 2, Janzoon II (R. Lade) 3, Salacia (A. Byrne) 4, Lorita Maria (N. Rydge) 5. No. 2 Division.—Cadence (H. Mason) 1, Cavalier (L. McDonnell) 2, Kareelah (J. Fidock) 3, Yampl (J. Polson) 4, Struen Marie (A. Wildman) 5.
