April Showers Might Win Reef ton Cup Today

April Showers, a good second to Gay Gordon in the Waimate Gup last time out, should go one better in the Reef ton Gup today. This is the first leg of the double at the Reefton Trotting Club’s annual meeting.

April Showers has mixed good and bad performances this season, but her effort at Waimate suggested an early win. Ruapuna has shown useful form in recent weeks and she could be capable of another bold showing. She was a decisive winner over 10 furlongs at Westport on Monday and will only have to repeat that effort to take beating. She appeals more as a stayer than a sprinter.

Night Rocket is another promising stayer. His efforts at Westport were more than useful and it will be surprising if he fails to give a good account of himself. Rawiri, Certify, Frugal, Morano Star, Lottery Song and Loyal Hanover are others capable of surprising. Michael, Richard Hanover and Sweet Rosalie form a likely trio for the Maruia Handicap, the second leg of this double. There will be an on-course double run on the President’s Handicap and the Junction Handicap, Hialee and Blue Pin forming a likely combination.

Fair weather is forecast and the track will be in splendid order.
