‘SERIOUS CRIME’

GISBORNE, Dec. 29.
Specimens taken from the vat room at the Gisborne brewery ripped by an explosion in the early hours of Sunday morning have been submitted to the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research experts, Chief Inspector R. A. Moore said tonight The objective was to determine the nature of the explosive used and how it was employed. The analysis would help C. 1.8.
detectives decide whether it was the work of an amateur or a person skilled in the use of explosives. The C. 1.8. investigation involves extensive Inquiries not only in Gisborne but elsewhere. So far there have been no developments.
Detective B. H. Constable, the Gisborne C. 1.8. chief, said the explosion was being treated as a very serious crime and inquiries were being conducted over a wide area.
