DOWLING DECIDES
Will Play Tomorrow
The Canterbury Plunket Shield captain, G. T. Dowling, has stated he will be fit to play against Wellington at Lancaster Park tomorrow.
Dowling was injured at Dunedin on Monday when a ball was deflected from his bat to his face, causing a depression of the cheekbone and requiring dental surgery.
Dowling will have stitches removed today. His face is still quite badly bruised, but he is eager to play. The sole selector (Mr W. McD. Anderson) announced last evening that Canterbury’s team to play Wellington will consist of the 11 who played at Dunedin and J. R. Veitch, who was in the original selection for the Otago match, but who had to withdraw with an injury. Veitch dislocated a finger two weeks ago but he is now fully fit. He had an extensive trial at Lancaster Park last evening when the Canterbury team had a satisfactory practice. B. R. Taylor (South Canterbury), who was twelfth man at Dunedin, has not been retained. The twelfth man will be announced on the morning of the match.
