PHILIPPINE OFFER
Legion To Fight Viet Cong (N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) UNITED NATIONS, Dec. 29. A Philippine Congressman, Data Salipada K. Penderton, said yesterday the Philippines had offered South Vietnam an anti-guerrilla legion to help in the fight against the Communist Viet Cong, the Associated Press reported. Mr Penderton told a reporter he explained the plan at a two-hour meeting with South Vietnam’s observer at the United Nations, Mr Nguyen Phu Due. He said the Philippines planned to send to South Vietnam a “reserve officers’ legion of the Philippines” to train South Vietnamese troops and offer technical assistance.
