Fire Breaks Out Again
(N.Z. Press Association) ROTORUA, Dec. 28. Forest Service men are keeping an all-night watch on a fire which yesterday threatened the Whakarewarewa State forest and broke out again about noon today. At one stage today the position was described as desperate as the blaze again neared the 2000-acre forest. It also started to back burn towards Whakarewarewa village and only strenuous efforts by the Rotorua Fire Brigade and the Maori population of the village held back the fire. The outbreak today—thought to have started through wind fanning the embers of yesterday’s blaze —was confined at about 5.15 p.m.
