CONCORD PACT
Guarantee Sought’ (N.Z. Press Assn. —Copyright) LONDON. December 28. President de Gaulle has asked Britain for a written guarantee that she will stand by Anglo-French agreement to build the Concord supersonic airliner, Chapman Pincher reported today in the “Daily Express.” Pincher said de Gaulle had made it clear that until he got a guarantee he would refuse to allow French officials to take part in any talks about changes in the £3OO million programme to ease Britain’s financial problems. This meant the British Cabinet would “almost certainly” have to agree to continue with the Concord, though the latest cost estimates affirmed the Government’s conviction that Britain could not afford the aircraft. Australia’s Qantas airline has a tentative order for four Concords.
