OXFORD FIRE

Pavilion Damaged The Oxford domain pavilion was extensively damaged by fire which broke out about 8.45 p.m. yesterday. That part of the building used by the Oxford Cricket Club was completely burnt out and a considerable amount of its equipment, including a new mat valued at £4O, was destroyed. The fire was first noticed by a visitor to Oxford who had returned to the baths to look for a pair of jandals that had been left behind. He noticed a glow under the pavilion and went to the nearest house to give the alarm.

The eight members of the Oxford Volunteer Fire Brigade available, with Mr J. Monk in charge, used water from the adjacent swimming baths to extinguish the blaze. Constable V. G. Strong, of Oxford, said he was unable to say how the fire had started, but he considered it had started on the floor at the back of the cricket club’s room.
