WARM AND SUNNY
Continuation Predicted The warm, sunny weather which Christchurch has enjoyed over Christmas is expected to continue today and tomorrow. The Weather Office was not prepared to go as far as New Year’s Day with its predictions. So far, the weather has been little short of perfect. Temperatures have been in the seventies, and the winds light and fairly warm. The maximum temperature recorded at Harewood on Thursday was 68.2 degrees (67.8 degrees in the Botanic Gardens). On Christmas Day, it was 72.3 degrees at Harewood and 71.4 degrees at the gardens; on Saturday the maximum was 75.3 degrees at Harewood and 77.3 degrees in town; and yesterday’s maximum at Harewood was about 73 degrees. Beaches and river picnic spots were crowded yesterday and the roads heavy with the traffic generated by thousands of families making for holiday baches, houses, and camping grounds.
