RACING SYDNEY WIN
Commodore Roberts (N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) SYDNEY, December 27. | The seven furlong A.J C Handicap at Randwick on Sat- | urday was won by the New I Zealand galloper, Commodore Roberts. His owner, the Auckland cinema proprietor. Mr M J. Moodabe, flew to Sydney on Saturday morning to" see his eight-year-old score his first Australian win. It was only the second start for the gelding in this country. Commodore Roberts. the favourite at 2/1. gave the jockey, G. Moore, Ills third win of the day. In the middle of the field for the first three fur longs. Commodore Roberts finished brilliantly to win by three-quarters of a length. In third place was Prince Tirage. a four-year-old son of Faux Tirage. A syndicate of 20 sportsmen on Saturday won the Summer Cup at Randwick with the three-year-old gelding, Hyde, bought in New Zealand five months ago for £lOOO. The cup was worth £1350 to the winner plus a trophy of £lOO. Second was another New Zea-land-bred three-year-old. Irish Pride. Hyde was the fourth favourite at 13/2 and had to hold off a strong challenge from Irish Pride to win by three-quarters of a length. The hot favourite. Brunswick, finished third Hyde’s win was the first by a three-year-old in the Summer Cup for more than 45 year He is owned by 20 members of the Sylvania Bowling Club and the Port Hacking Businessmen's Club.
