WARNING TO VISITORS
Behaviour In Bay Of Plenty "The Press" Special Service TAURANGA, Dec. 27. Police have warned visitors to the Bay of Plenty that disorderly behaviour will not be tolerated over the holidays. “This does not mean that visitors cannot have a good time. We want them to enjoy themselves and we will do everything possible to help them,” said Chief Inspector L. R. Blake, head of the Rotorua police. “So long as the public cooperate, we will be reasonably tolerant in keeping with the holiday spirit.”
Police reinforcements from other areas have been sent into the Bay of Plenty to cope with the invasion of holiday visitors. Rotorua has four constables brought from Wellington, making a total strength of 37 uniformed men on call. Six extra constables and a sergeant from Wellington and Hamilton, as well as a police dog, are stationed at Mt. Maunganui, where the station normally has one sergeant and four men. One extra man from Gisborne has been added to the police force at Whakatane. Arrangements have also been made for a constable to be based at Ohope Beach during the holidays.
