FOOLISH DRIVERS
Children In Roof Rack (N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, Dec. 27. Several examples of foolish motoring during the weekend have been reported by traffic officers. On the Clevedon-Kawakawa Bay road an officer stopped a woman driving a van. A boy standing on the bonnet was holding a roof rack in place and two children were sitting on the rack with their legs dangling over the windscreen. The woman explained that she was taking the children to the beach. “She did not seem to appreciate that a sudden swerve or stop could have killed all three children.” said the officer In Northland, a girl, aged 19 being taught to ride a motor-cycle by a 17-year-old youth was timed at 90 miles an hour The keys were taken from her on the grounds that she was a borderline case of drunkenness. At Auckland a young motor-cyclist was caught riding his machine —facing backwards. A driver, also in the Auckland district, was stopped carrying an 11-foot canoe on his roof—sideways.
