Fasting
(N.Z. Press Association) DUNEDIN, Dec. 25. While others throughout New Zealand sat down to huge Christmas dinners today an English seaman, Mr Arthur Smith, at present staying in Dunedin, had only a glass of water. Mr Smith started fasting after a meal at 7 p.m. on Wednesday and last night had gone for two days without food. His fast, which he hopes to continue at least until tomorrow and possibly for a week, is in protest against the New Zealand road accident toll.
