SWEETENED SEARCH
Sugar For Indonesians (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Dec. 25. Gift sugar has sweetened the Royal New Zealand Navy’s image in the minds of Indonesian traders whose small craft have been searched by the crew of the frigate Otago off the coast of Malaya in the last month, says a Navy release. On Wednesday the Otago arrived at Singapore for maintenance and Christmas—after four weeks’ anti-infiltra-tion patrol with the Far East Fleet.
Each night the Otago was on patrol her radar picked up an average of three Indonesian vessels.
They were searched and when found to be nothing more offensive than trading boats plying to Malaysia in defiance of the Indonesian Government’s ruling, their crews were given sugar and released.
