NEW BRIDGE OPEN
Fitzgerald Av. Widening The second new bridge across the Avon river at Fitzgerald avenue was opened to traffic before the Christmas holidays. The bridge is for south-bound traffic using the State highway No. 1. Work on widening the highway north of the bridge has been suspended for the holidays, but the contractors have completed most of the work on the east side, and motorists have a considerably wider road on which to approach the new bridges. Work will be resumed in the New Year on the river side of the avenue. The carriageway is being extended there considerably and retaining walls are being built to keep the river on a new course.
