Normal Christmas After £60,000 Win
Little difference was made to the Christmas of Lance Corporal Rodger Ryan’s family by his recent £60,000 win in the Mammoth Golden Kiwi lottery. Yesterday the family sat down to their normal Christmas dinner in their Dunsandel home, for it had been decided to have just an ordinary Christmas, and there were no lavish presents or food.
The youngest of the girls in the family of nine children received a doll each, and one boy received a guitar. Around the dinner table were Mr and Mrs Ryan, the seven younger children, a married daughter and her husband, Mr and Mrs R. Haywood, of Redcliffs, and their baby
daughter. The other son of Mr and Mrs Ryan is in the Navy. The main part of the family’s Christmas dinner was lamb, green peas, and new potatoes. A few days ago the family visited relatives on the West Coast, and after dinner yesterday they again went out to visit friends. Lance-Corporal Ryan has purchased a secondhand 1963 station waggon. Lance Corporal Ryan is a 49-year-old cook at Burnham Military Camp, and has been in the Army for 13 years. He has been married for 27 years. The family has been living in the house at Dunsandel for about four months, and before this lived in an Army house at Burnham.
