EAGER LADY DEAD
Dam Of The Wanderer •The Press” Special Service INVERCARGILL, Dec. 23. One of Southland’s top brood mares. Eager Lady, died recently when foaling to Bellborough. She was in her twenty-third year. Eager Lady was bred from for most of her stud career by Mr H. R. Dennis, of Woodlands, who purchased her for 70 guineas at a Southland bloodstock sale in 1951. Twelve months earlier she had been passed in at a sale of thoroughbred stock on behalf of the Larneville Stud for 85 guineas. Eager Lady proved herself a prolific brood mare. She was out of the Tea Tray mare Victory Bond, a member of the same family as that which produced Wantwood, Macedoine, Pride of Mossburn, Fairweather, Countersign, Reorapa, and others. Eager Lady’s produce included Can’t Fault (which was fatally injured after an escapade on the roads at virtually the outset of her career), The Wanderer, The Missionary, The Budget, The Guide and her latest winner The Kurd. Her best winner has been The Wanderer, which has won 17 races and been 59 times placed to date for £7165 in stakes. The Budget has won five races and The Missionary tour. In all Eager Lady’s progeny have won 29 races and secured 93 placings for £10,240 in stakes to date.
