QUAKES WATCHED
Two More Recorders (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Dec. 23. Two additional portable earthquake recorders were installed today in the Taupo region, Dr. F. F. Evison, director of the Geophysics Division, D.5.1.R., announced this afternoon. “What we want to do is take advantage of the continuation of the earthquake swarm activity to make an intensive study of it,” Dr. Evison explained. These additional recorders will bring the total in the Taupo area to four. “With this network we aim to locate precisely the origins of earthquakes,” Dr. Evison said. A party of scientists has accompanied each instrument—one being installed at Whakamaru and the other east of Lake Taupo—and a close watch will be kept on results over the holiday period.
