No Paper Tomorrow “The Press” will not be published tomorrow, Christmas Day. Little Rain Only three points of rain fell yesterday morning and although a light to moderate southerly blew most of the day temperatures were quite warm. The temperature on the Government Life building was 67 degrees for most of the afternoon and 65 degrees at Harewood. A temperature of 64 degrees was recorded in the Botanic Gardens at 3 p.m. At 6 a.m. at Harewood the temperature was 56 degrees, 61 degrees at 9 a.m., 60 degrees at noon, and then rose to 65 degrees. Christmas Appeal The National Council of Churches “Strengthen Thy Neighbour” Christmas appeal for needy persons overseas has so far brought in £4863, compared with £3401 at the same date last year, the general secretary (the Rev. D. M. Taylor) said yesterday. The target is £65,000, compared with a final figure of more than £62,000 last year. Parcels For Prison About 100 Christmas parcels will be distributed to prisoners at Paparoa Prison on Christmas day by Christchurch Baptist congregations. Parcels will be given to prisoners who would otherwise receive nothing. The distribution will be in collaboration with the prison chaplain (the Rev. D. C. Hopkins). Christmas Weather Weather over Christmas is expected by the Meteorological Office at Harewood to be similar to that in recent years. It ,’s expected to be partly cloudy on Christmas Day with light north-easterly winds and temperatures in the low 60’s. Christmas Day in 1962 was the hottest during the last four years, with 84 degrees in a moderately north-westerly, but the other three have had conditions much the same as predicted for this year.
