TRADITIONAL WELCOME
New Samoan Minister
The new Samoan assistant minister of Trinity Congregational Church, the Rev. K. Faletoese, was formally welcomed to Christchurch last night in a traditional Samoan ceremony.
A “malage” was held for Mr Faletoese, in which about a dozen Congregationalists from the Christchurch area called on him and his wife at their home. The visitors brought gifts for the new couple, and were given hospitality. In the several weeks Mr Faletoese has been on the church the response to his sermons in Samoan has been so great, an additional service in Samoan is now being given each Sunday. He gave part of the nationallybroadcast service on Sunday, a combined effort of Trinity Congregational, St. Paul’s Presbyterian and Oxford Terrace Baptist Churches.
