BRAWL IN PRISON

A convict was stabbed during a brawl among 36 prisoners at Parramatta Gaol yesterday. He is Harold Peckham, aged 25, who is serving four years for assault and robbery. His condition was reported today to be serious. The brawl broke out in the exercise yard of the left wing of the gaol. Peckham fell to the ground with a deep wound in the left shoulder. He was taken to Parramatta Hospital where doctors performed an emergency operation and gave him blood transfusions. Prison department officials are investigating.
