Injured Singer Kept Walking
(N-Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) LONDON, Dec. 22. The pop singer, Jan Douglas, aged 21, has had 20 accidents since she was 13, the “Daily Mail” reported. They began when she fell out of a tree and broke her spine. Doctors said she would never walk again, but she surprised them. In her latest mishap Jan fell and sprained her ankle, but she went on for two shows that night. She said yesterday: “It was important to plug my record, ‘Walking in the Rain.’ Anyway, I’ve stood worse pain before.”
Feminine Rule.—A schoolmistress was elected mayor of the all-women town council at Rotzo, near Vicenza today after men had refused office in protest against the handling of local problems.— Vicenza (North Italy), December 21.
