WELLINGTON, Dec. 22.
The Health Department was in touch with the Ashburton Hospital Board about its prospective staffing position, but it was hoped that “further discussions between the interested parties may help towards resolving the situation,” the Minister of Health (Mr McKay) said today. “Regarding the position at Ashburton Hospital after December 31, should the present difficulties still not be corrected, the Health Department will do everything possible to assist the board to ensure adequate care of its patients,” he said. “The relief arrangements already made, and further temporary assistance which it is hoped to arrange, should ensure the efficient functioning of the hospital.”
