First Flight At 99
Mr D. Ellwood, of Totara street, Riccarton, has been in no hurry to take to the air. By the time he was ready to make his first flight yesterday he was 99, and really looking forward to it. He and his daughter flew to Timaru from Christchurch airport yesterday afternoon. “I’m not a bit nervous.” he said before he left. “I wouldn’t mind if I was off to Timbuktu.”
They will spend Christmas with Mr Ellwood's daughter, Mrs P. W. Young. His only comment after the flight was: “I was on the wrong side of the bus. All I could see were some paddocks. I couldn’t recognise any places.” He said he prefers travelling by car because he can see more.
