SYDNEY, Dec. 22.
The wife of the Speaker of the New South Wales Legislative Assembly, Mrs Ray Maher, said today: “I wish I could get into the fight and help my husband.
Interviewed at their home in North Sydney, she told reporters: “I’ve stood beside him throughout his political career and seen him overcome the most impossible odds—including an illness which has limited him phvsically.
“This time, though, it’s a case of his having to stand alone. I have no doubt it will all come out to Ray’s advantage. “But it’s most unfair that a person of such integrityshould have to suffer this worry and indignity. He will win because he is a good fighter. “I've always said that Ray’s got a lot of the Irish in him and that makes a very good fighter. He has not only fought for himself but for others too.” Describing her reaction to the charges against her husband Mrs Maher said: “You can’t explain numbness and shock unless you’ve really ex-i perienced them.”
