Abandoned Pets
Sir, —Cats, kittens, dogs—stolen, starved, dumped, run over. Animal welfare! Is it a myth in Christchurch now at Christmas? It would seem so, for some. The many owners seeking the return of a muchloved creature friend, some still hoping after months of loss, tell the tale of misery here. Shades of Norman Bell! No response to appeals for a
smoothly-functioning service or telephone service in emergency, or place of refuge for unwanted or lost animals till their owners are found. Will the world ever know the ideal of peace and goodwill till human beings waken to their responsibility toward all life?—Yours, etc., THESE LITTLE ONES. December 22, 1964.
