NEW ALPINE HUT
Hillary To Assist
Sir Edmund Hillary is to take part in the construction of a new Pioneer Hut in the South Westland alpine region. Work on the hut is expected to start early next year. The hut will replace the old Pioneer Hut which was swept away by an avalanche and will cost about £2OOO. The New Zealand Alpine Club has provided a third of the cost. It will be sited in the general locality of the old building. Building equipment and timber will be flown to the site from the Franz Josef airport. The New Zealand National Film Unit wnll film the building of the hut, and, in particular, the part Sir Edmund Hillary plays in its construction. It is intended to circulate the film in different parts of the world for publicity purposes.
