Land Clearance To Be Tested

(N.Z.P.A. -Reuter—Copyright) VANCOUVER (British Columbia)

A 200-ton tree crushing machine used for land clearing is to be tested in the Peace river area of the Province of British Columbia.

The machine can push over trees of 40in in diameter. As the tree falls a blade-studded roller crushes and compacts it and, where there is a soft surface soil, buries it. A minimum of 1200 acres of land will be cleared. The experiment is part of the programme of preparing navigational channels and harbour areas necessary for water clearance when the area is flooded.
