U.K. SHIPPING COSTS
Commissioner’s View
The proportionate increases in the costs of New Zealand lamb and butter were greater than increases in costs of shipping, Mr A. Vine, the British Trade Commissioner in Christchurch since 1962, said last night. Mr Vine is leaving Christchurch to take a similar post in Brisbane.
He said that the major costs in freight were the costs of getting the goods on to and off the ships. In this connexion the United Kingdom was carrying out a review of working methods at its own ports.
