Second Letter To Minister
The Minister of Railways i (Mr McAlpine) advised the | Lyttelton Borough Council in • a letter received last evening I that no personal representa{tions had been made to him so far on the proposed reductions in the ChristchurchLyttelton train services. Mr McAlpine said he had written to the member of Parliament for Lyttelton (Mr N. E. Kirk). “No doubt, he will let me know in due course what objections, if any, there are to the proposed new timetable,” the letter said.
Mr McAlpine was replying to a letter from the council calling for a meeting of all interested parties to discuss the time-table alterations further. The Mayor (Mr J. B. Collett) said he felt the Minister had misread the council’s letter as he had made no reference to the suggested meeting. The council decided to write to the Minister again. A special sub-committee comprising Crs. E. A. Camfield, G. E. Boyd, and R. J. Stanley, was elected to investigate the proposed time-table alterations.
